A painted harbour at golden hour, tall ships at anchor — Port Royal, one of the ports in Ransack

A pirate strategy game

Ransack

Build your ship, crew her with named officers, and take what the sea offers — prizes, ports, and a name they say with care.

In development and playtesting. Plays in your browser — no download, no account.

The Game

Ransack is a single-player strategy game about one ship and the crew who make her dangerous. You start with a battered hull and a short crew list; everything after that — the refits, the officers, the ports that learn to fear your colours — is earned at sea.

  • Crew & officers

Recruit named crew and officers, each with their own traits, gear, and loyalties. Train them, level them, and watch green hands grow into officers worth building a ship around.

  • Ship progression

Build her room by room on a live deck plan — crew quarters, beast pens, a surgeon's bay — and refit her hull level by level, from a battered starter ship to the strongest colours on the coast.

  • Voyages

Plot voyages between ports. Trade, salvage, storms, and stranger encounters wait on every leg, and the weather turns as the days pass.

  • Boarding & duels

Come alongside and board prizes deck to deck. Settle matters of honour in insult duels, where a sharp tongue lands before the steel does.

  • Blockades & port assaults

Blockade a port to soften its garrison, then assault it and sack it. The game is named for the verb — and the verb is real gameplay.

  • Daily contracts & event calendar

Fresh contracts every day, and an eight-week calendar of themed event weeks — Blockade Week, Kraken Hunt, the Regatta, Smuggler's Moon, and more.

  • 21 languages

The full game in 18 languages, plus 3 more in beta with core text (Quechua, Guarani, Aymara). Start in your own language from the very first screen, and change it whenever you like.

  • Voiced & scored

Fully voiced in English · subtitled in 21 languages. An original score carries the story, the harbours, and the weather.

Fair rules, stated plainly: no pay-to-win, no gacha, no subscriptions. Rewards never expire, and your progress waits for you when you're called away.

The Studio

Goat Locker Studios is an independent studio making one game at a time — and making it well. Ransack is our first: designed, written, painted, voiced, and scored to be the kind of strategy game we kept wishing someone would build.

The name is borrowed from the chiefs' mess aboard ship — the goat locker, where the experienced hands keep a vessel honest.

Buy the Crew a Round

Soon you'll be able to stand the crew a round: $3 of goodwill that helps carry Ransack toward launch, with your name chalked up on the Grog Roll — our honour roll, kept on this site and in the game's own credits. The wall is built and waiting; the Grog Roll page has the details, including the plain print (a supporter purchase, not a donation).

Now in playtesting

Ransack is in active playtesting, and the current build is open to testers. It runs right here in your browser — nothing to install, no account to make. For full sound, open it in Safari or Chrome rather than inside another app's built-in browser.

Play the tester build

Your progress saves in your own browser, on your own device. Found something broken, confusing, or brilliant? There's a feedback link inside the game — “Send word to the crow's nest” — and every report is read.

Get word when Ransack launches

Join the launch list and we'll write to you when Ransack releases — plus the occasional call for playtesters. One address, used for that and nothing else: never sold, never shared, and you're off the list the moment you ask.

From the Alliance Hall

When the crew isn't at sea in Ransack, you'll find us in KingShot — and we play it the way we build games: by the numbers. Our alliance guide, Building Combat Density in KingShot, lays out the whole doctrine: rush Town Center 22 and 25 for the multiplier systems, fund hero gear over heroes, put Lethality and Health ahead of raw Attack, march 50/20/30, and ascend only the heroes who earn it. Dense power over bloated power — free to read, share it with your own alliance if it serves.
